Organic Chemistry - Discover Why It Is So Interesting
Organic Chemistry - Discover Why It Is So InterestingYou may be wondering what it is that makes organic chemistry so fascinating. Well the best way to explain it is to imagine that you are traveling through a forest in search of a certain plant. It may take you hours or even days to get to the right spot. Imagine your excitement as you finally find the plant in the end.The most obvious key point here is that something inside of you must have worked at a subconscious level to take you this far, and it was more than just luck. This is exactly what organic chemistry is, and why it is so interesting.I can guarantee that if you could not learn chemistry because of some other reason, then you will not be able to learn it anymore either. When I left school I was told that the final exam was the hardest one of all and the science teacher had told us that if we were going to pass we would have to learn it by heart. This was extremely hard for me to do, especially with my limited knowledge at the time. You may feel that you do not have the knowledge to learn organic chemistry by heart. You can be forgiven for that, but there is a way around it. There are several online courses available on the internet that can help you learn the subject thoroughly. You do not need to find a teacher to do this, you can do it yourself if you are willing to put in the effort.Of course this will take a complete study as well, and you will definitely need a dedicated learning plan. However you will find that the process is very rewarding and will give you far more satisfaction than anything else that you could learn by doing alone.Organic chemistry is definitely an exciting subject to learn, and the reason is that there are many ways to get yourself involved in it. It is the best way to discover and explore different kinds of reactions and compounds. It also provides you with an opportunity to make important scientific discoveries. The complete tour and experience will also give you an insight into the learning process itself. You will get to see how the learning progresses from a beginner's point of view. The feeling that you are participating in a scientific experiment is truly exhilarating.

2014 italki Challenge update halfway done!
2014 italki Challenge update⦠halfway done! Lamb is one of our newest italki users and decided to take part in the Language Challenge. He wrote in with this update of his Language Challenge. Its great advice for all Language Challengers (and language learners in general!). Lamb also posted a Public Video Pledge of himself before he started the Challenge. Im sure even at the halfway point, hes already come a long way! Lambs original Notebook Entry (reposted with permission) So last month I signed up for the italki challenge, put my money where my mouth is, and scheduled 20 sessions with a few reputable looking teachers. This was a little frightening because: (1) I had never used italki before, (2) I had never spoken my target language [French] with native speakers before, and (3) I had only just started to learn French from scratch for about a month. A lot of people, myself included, feel a great deal of anxiety about having to speak a language theyre not proficient in. Most of us would rather study textbooks and flashcards and use websites like Duolingo (all great resources that I also recommend) for months on end and hope that speaking takes care of itself. Now, and Ive only put around 12 hours of speaking in, I think I can say that this is the way it works. You get better at speaking by speaking, and the anxiety of speaking goes away the more you do it, too. I dont think that six more months of self-study would have gotten me there. So for anyone whos on the fence: try it out. Start talking. As bad as the anxiety might be, you will be impressed with your own progress and see that its worth it. If all goes well, in a month Ill have finished the challenge and gotten some more money for lessons. But if the worst happensâ"sessions get cancelled or something unavoidable comes upâ"I wont lose the progress Ive made so far, nor will I lose the motivation to keep going in March. 2014 italki Challenge update⦠halfway done! Get Back Into the Swing of Things After Spring Break
Get Back Into the Swing of Things After Spring Break Five ways to get back into the swing of things after spring break Students are returning to school after spring break and are probably feeling refreshed and renewed from having a week off but it isnt necessarily easy to get back into the swing of things and focus on classroom activities. Depending on how old the student is there are lots of different things they can do to restart a healthy study routine and find a balance for the rest of the school year. Younger kids might need to adjust to small amounts of structure while older students can benefit from focusing on work-life balance. Either way, its important for all students to be able to focus on whats important and do well in school through the end of June struggling to get back into the swing of things after spring break? Our Orange County tutors are here to help! 1. Maintain a low-stress attitude As students come back to spring break, it can be easy to fall into their old stressful routine which can make it harder to have a work-life balance for the rest of the school year. Its important for students, especially those in high school and college, to maintain a low-stress attitude as they face the spring testing season. College prep students will face advanced placement and college entrance exams while college students will need to focus on a series of finals and term papers. Maintaining a positive mental balance can help students do well in school but also keep life calm and peaceful . 2. Focus on balance Its also important for students to keep a balance when it comes to finishing their schoolwork. Many high school students, especially seniors, will begin to develop senioritis around this time of year. Although its always important to have enough downtime and manage stress, its also important to remain focused on academic assignments. Students can work with a tutor, in person or online, to help them stay organized or refine study skills when necessary. Additionally, students who work in a study group tend to stay motivated because they get to socialize and complete assignments at the same time (READ: 7 Tips For Studying While Traveling). 3. Improve study skills At this point in the year, some students need to improve already existing study skills so they can be more efficient and focus on the spring testing season. Students can work on how long it takes them to complete assignments, focus in on important elements of their textbook, work on skimming and speed reading, as well as important review. The more refined a studentâs study skills are, the more likely they are to be successful and earn good grades. 4. Utilize technology Students are always encouraged to use technology, but Ed Tech can be especially useful when students come back from spring break. Students can use organizational tools online, download apps, or work with their favorite tutor in a digital environment. There is so much technology available these days, but students need to focus on what will work best for them and their study schedule, so they dont become overwhelmed with all of the choices available to them. 5. Pick good role models Its also essential at this point in the year for students to pick positive role models. Some of their friends will be focusing on college applications or final exams while others will be tempted to skip class or forgo important assignments. When students surround themselves with others who want to be successful and have a great work ethic, they are more likely to be successful themselves. This is especially true when it comes to working in a social environment. Thus students should consider this when they choose who will be in their study group. Chemistry Unit 5 - Mole Worksheet Answers
Chemistry Unit 5 - Mole Worksheet AnswersAnswering the questions that come up when reading Chemistry Unit 5 is a fun and exciting experience. Learning the answers to these types of questions can be done by filling out a Mole Worksheet. In this article I will share with you the Mole Worksheet and how to answer these types of questions. When I used this type of question for my Chemistry Units, I was a little apprehensive. As a great chemistry teacher, I had been taught that getting this right is important to success. To me, learning how to solve problems like this one presented a new challenge. What did I need to do?The first thing that I found was that to get a good understanding of what I was doing, I needed to go over it again. This proved to be a good idea. Learning how to answer questions about basic chemistry or unit tests was always important to me and so was learning how to solve problems like this one. When I took this question for my unit test, I noticed that this is not one of those tests that it is important to remember all the answers to. The trick in the middle of the test where this question is concerned is to try to figure out what exactly I am supposed to do. That is why I went over this question again.Getting a good start on a question like this is easy. All you need to do is write down the answer first. This will allow you to understand the question easier and also get a feel for which line of thought is the right one to use.I started by writing down, 'How many atoms does the mole hold?' and then followed it up with 'What is the weight of the mole?' I got to thinking and realized that I have three different ways to go here.I could go with a single answer that is worded the same as the question but without the 'how' answer. Then I could go with a 'weight' answer that gives a single number that is the same as the answer given. Finally, I could do one more answer that is worded differently from the question but which still gives the same answer. Thi s is the method that I used here.
What You Need To Know About Smart Kids Tutoring
What You Need To Know About Smart Kids TutoringIf you are considering for online tutoring, you may have considered Smart Kida tutoring. The problem is that Smart Kida's reputation has grown beyond what it is and even people who used to be their clients are now jumping ship and choosing other tutoring companies for their online education needs. However, when you have come to this conclusion, you are probably concerned about how to find the right tutoring company that will suit your individual needs. The most important factor to consider when searching for a tutor, is to consider whether Smart Kida is indeed the best company. If the tutors in their system are not the best that you can find, or if the tutors cannot help you with the problems that you need, then you should definitely do some research into other tutoring companies. However, if you find tutors that meet your expectations, then you can call it quits and make an informed decision. One of the ways of finding the best tutors onl ine is to compare the tutors from different tutoring services providers that you have been introduced to. This method is a bit of a gamble, because there may be some tutors that may charge a premium price for the same service, while others may not be as expensive. In addition, you have to make sure that you find the tutors that can do what you want them to do. For example, if you want to learn to play guitar and you need a guitar tutor, you will have to choose wisely between some tutors that charge a fee per lesson, others that charge per hour or by the hour. When you compare these tutors and look for reviews on them, you can get a better idea about how much value they offer, and therefore whether they are actually quality tutors, which is what you really want when you are looking for quality tutoring services. These reviews are very important for your comparison, so that you can identify the tutors that provide the best quality services that you require.Another final option is to as k for advice from your friends and family members. If you feel that the tutors you are recommending are not qualified to handle your education needs, you may want to consider giving up on them altogether. This is what you want to avoid, so you have to try to talk to someone in your circle that has been through a similar situation. Whether they will advise you to give up on your choices, or help you in your search is up to you, but it is always a good idea to talk to others that you trust and rely on for advice.Online tutoring services can give you access to the tutors who can offer the same service that they did in the traditional classroom setting. Although the tutors may have more resources at their disposal when they are online, the most important thing is that they can provide you with the same education as they could in the classroom. Even though you are learning from the comfort of your own home, the quality of the learning experience will always be at par with what you would get from a regular classroom-based education program.Smart Kida tutoring offers tutoring services to students at all grade levels. You can find them online and determine whether they can help you or not, and then you can decide if you will avail of their services or not.

Ask an Admissions Expert Whitney Bruce
Ask an Admissions Expert Whitney Bruce Whitney Bruce has been helping students succeed in the college admissions process for over 15 years. Her experience on the admissions boards for both Washington University in St. Louisand the University of Michiganhave led her to develop a true expertise for this subject and prepare numerous students for the lengthy process. Whitney currently counsels students as a team member of Accepted, a premier admissions consulting service. VT: How far ahead of time should a student begin working on his or her college application? Whitney: Students can begin working on their college applications during the summer prior to senior year of high school. More than 400 colleges are members of the Common Application (commonapp.org), which generally releases its current application on August first of each year. Some students aspire to complete their essays, or personal statement earlier than fall of the senior year, but Ive found that for many students, the maturity that comes with the extra few months between the end of eleventh grade and the beginning of twelfth grade leads to better essays. VT: What are the best ways to go about selecting a terrific essay topic? Whitney: The most important approach is to let go of the idea that your essay topic needs to be based upon an earthshattering experience. Its true, students write very impactful essays about overcoming chronic illness, the death of parent, or other personal tragedy, however I wouldnt wish those circumstances on anyone just for a compelling essay topic. The best essays often spring from a small moment; its what the writer does with the topic by adding his or her own personality and viewpoint leads to an effective college admissions essay. VT: Are there any essay topics you get tired of seeing or would warn students to stay away from? Whitney: A good essay is more about the perspective a student shares than it is about the topic. When I was an admissions officer, there were several themes that made trite or impersonal essays. The first is the travelogue: I went, I saw, I did. The second essay springs from the athletic team- kicking the winning soccer goal, or learning that winning isnt more important than being a good teammate. It doesnt mean that you cant write about these topics, but again, its about your thoughts and point of view as the applicant, not the nuts and bolts of the soccer game or trip to Costa Rica. VT: What is the biggest mistake a student can make on a college application? Whitney: Procrastination. Good writing takes time and personal reflection. Essay writing is also quite different from the writing most students work on in high school English class, so writing a personal essay can be really hard for many students. For most of the students I work with, their final essay is dramatically different from the first draft, even when the topic is essentially the same. That process takes time, and a student who sits down to write his essay at the 11th hour just cant put the same effort into the revision process. VT: What is the typical process an admissions officer goes through to evaluate applications? Whitney: The evaluation process varies dramatically and I encourage students to look carefully at the information for each college to which they are applying. VT: What do you think is the single most important thing a student should make sure they present in the best possible way on their application? Whitney: So much of a students application is complete before he or she even applies. Grades and curriculum choices are already set, and for most colleges, those are the most important factors in determining admission. I recommend that students control what they can in the process, by putting their best foot forward on their application forms and choosing teacher recommenders with care. VT: How should students go about determining the culture of a university, and whether they would be a good fit? Whitney: The best way is to spend some time at the colleges you are considering. Campus tours are a great overview, but adding time for a visit to the cafeteria, sitting in on a class, an overnight in the dorms, or just an afternoon on the quad can be very telling. Do the students look happy? Stressed out? Are they hardworking? Intense or laid back? You can also talk to students from your high school who have attended these colleges. VT: Early-action, early-decision, binding/non-binding, regular decisions...With so many choices when applying, what do you recommend to students? Whitney: Which application plan a student utilizes truly depends upon his or her academic record, whether his profile is likely to be stronger later in the application season, the need to compare financial aid offers or seek merit scholarships and a host of other factors. Its a very personal decision based upon the student and the colleges under consideration. VT: How important are grades and standardized test scores when admissions decisions are being made? Whitney: It is going to vary by college. For example, at some state universities, a specific rank in class and test score combination guarantees admission. At some of the most highly selective colleges, almost the entire applicant pool is capable of academic success at the institution, and those applicants all present stellar grades and test scores, so their personal qualities, extracurricular accomplishments, and recommendations take on a greater level of importance. VT: What tips do you have for students asking their teachers for letters of recommendation? Whitney: First of all, most colleges that require teacher recommendations are seeking a letter from a teacher who has taught you in a solid, academic course, during 11th or 12th grade. While there are some exceptions to this, for example, an art program seeking a recommendation from an art teacher, the following the statement above will ensure that you submit an appropriate recommendation. Academic courses are in the disciplines of English, Math, Social Studies, Science and Foreign Language. At many colleges, religion is not considered a traditional academic course for this purpose. Identify a teacher who will be able to give a strong endorsement to your academic performance in the classroom. It doesnt always mean the class in which you received the highest grade, rather, which teacher understands you best as a student? Think in terms of your written work, class participation, group projects, your enthusiasm for the subject matter, or your ability to overcome challenging material or struggles in that classroom. It is polite to give your recommender as much lead time as possible to write your recommendation. Consider this scenario: I was a college counselor at a small, private school which offered two AP courses to most juniors, AP US History and AP English, with approximately 30 boys enrolled in each course. Most of those students asked at least one of the two teachers to write a letter of recommendation, with each teacher devoting time to writing 15-20 letters of recommendation in addition to all of their other responsibilities. It was very time consuming for them, and advance notice was critical for the teacher to write the most specific and supportive letter possible. While you might not have a solidified list of colleges and deadlines at the time you first request your letter of recommendation, it is polite to ask for an opportunity to sit down with the teacher to discuss your college application plans and your recommendation. After your teacher has written his or her recommendation, follow up with a thank you note. As the applicant, it is always in your best interest to waive your right to see the recommendation.
